Fees are charged at $17 per lesson and are calculated per term according to the number of weeks in the term.

Make-up classes are available for dancers who miss a class due to illness or injury. Make-up classes must be taken within the same term in which the class was missed. To arrange a make-up class, please contact jess@firstpositionballetacademy.co.nz

We understand that some dancers need time to settle into a new activity, and that a single trial class is not always enough. At First Position Ballet Academy, we offer a three-class trial period for $45, allowing dancers to attend three consecutive lessons. This gives them the time and space to feel comfortable, build confidence, and decide whether our classes are the right fit for them.

Policies & Expectations

At First Position Ballet Academy, our policies are designed to support a positive, respectful, and professional learning environment for all dancers and families. Clear expectations help classes run smoothly and ensure every dancer feels safe, supported, and able to learn with confidence.

By enrolling in classes, parents/guardians and students agree to the following policies.

Enrolment, Fees & Trials

Enrolment is term-based, with fees calculated according to the number of weeks in each term at a rate of $17 per lesson.

We understand that settling into a new activity can take time. A three-class trial period is available for $45 and must be taken over three consecutive lessons. Following the trial, families may choose to continue with full-term enrolment.

Attendance & Make-Up Classes

Regular attendance is encouraged to support consistent progress and confidence in class.

Make-up classes are available for dancers who miss a lesson due to illness or injury. Make-up classes must be taken within the same term in which the class was missed. To arrange a make-up class, please contact
jess@firstpositionballetacademy.co.nz.

Uniform & Presentation

A studio uniform will be introduced in Term 2. Until then, dancers may wear:

  • Any plain-coloured leotard or plain t-shirt

  • A skirt or shorts

  • Ballet shoes (required)

Hair must be neat, secure, and styled off the face in a bun, allowing dancers to move safely and comfortably in class.

Health, Safety & Duty of Care

For the wellbeing of all students, dancers who are unwell or injured should not attend class. Parents/guardians are asked to inform the teacher of any medical conditions, injuries, or relevant changes that may affect participation.

Students are supervised during their scheduled class time only. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring dancers are dropped off and collected promptly.

Class Behaviour & Studio Etiquette

First Position Ballet Academy values respect, kindness, and focus in the studio. Dancers are expected to:

  • Listen carefully and follow instructions

  • Treat teachers, fellow dancers, and the studio space with respect

  • Participate positively and to the best of their ability

These expectations help create a calm, encouraging learning environment for everyone.

Changes or Cancellations

In the event of teacher illness, venue unavailability, or unforeseen circumstances, families will be notified as soon as possible. Where appropriate, a make-up class will be offered.

Photography & Media Permission

From time to time, photographs or short video recordings may be taken during classes or events for studio purposes. These images may be used to celebrate student achievements and for promotional material such as the First Position Ballet Academy website or social media platforms.

No names will be published alongside images. If parents/guardians do not wish for their child to be included in photography or media content, this must be communicated in writing to jess@firstpositionballetacademy.co.nz
